Aftermath of Covid epidemic, youths of oriental Asian countries and western European world is showing no interest to take nursing profession as career, resulting a global threat in health sector, at the same time in the eastern state of India, Meghalaya, the state government is planning to give global job opportunity to the “Shillong nurses” across the world hospitals.
Survey reports of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) earmarked, interest for the nursing career is dropping drastically in the European Countries of Western world, including Switzerland, Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Canada and United States and also in another 38 countries.
Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a propagator of free market economy, headquartered at Paris in France, warned that world is going to face a major challenge in health care sector, as coming young generation is losing interest for choosing nursing profession as career.
India was the major supplier of nursing staffs in the hospitals of Western world and Middle East, however, migration of Indian nurses is dropping down, recently, because of domestic demand of nurses in the native hospitals and health care institutes of the country.
Meghalaya Government, as a part of “Skills Meghalaya Scheme”, opened a job opportunity for 45 “Shillong Nurses” in Japan and Singapore, hence, 27 nurses from Meghalaya took their bag in hand for their professional journey to Japan, after accomplishing the hard tusk of learning Japanese Language.
Meghalaya Governments stretching helping hand for global for opportunity to Meghalaya’s youth in order to unlock their dreams for placement across the world. As part of this “Skills Meghalaya Scheme” Meghalaya Government is now ready to sponsor a sum of Rs. 50,000/- for each aspirant to impart skill training to state youth for global opportunities.
“Skills Meghalaya Scheme” aims to cover several hundred nurses in the coming years and with their newly inspired skill, those nurses will be placed in various hospitals and health care homes across the world.
State Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma eulogizing the achievement says, “It is great to see nurses from the state move out and serve people overseas. We are sending them with blessings and hope to hear positive stories about them. I also urge others to come forward and take the opportunity not only to earn a livelihood overseas but also, to enhance their knowledge and career.” He further added that, within three months time; another batch of 14 nurses shall be given placement at different health care institutions at Singapore.
Before takeoff to Japan, Laikyrmen Khardewsaw, hails from Khlieh Umtrew village of Ri Bhoi District of Meghalaya, affirms her self-confidence saying, “My journey from my village all the way to Japan was a difficult one with many challenges yet through it all God was with me, my family, loved ones and my friends were with me who keep motivating me from time to time and who have made this journey a beautiful one”.
It can be mentioned that Government of Meghalaya had organized an ‘Overseas Nursing Job Fair’ last year in August 2023, getting an overwhelming response from across the state.
